 CHICAGO, IL – A Chicago police officer has died following a shooting Thursday night in the city’s Chatham neighborhood.  The officer, identified as 36-year-old Krystal Rivera, was fatally shot while responding to an incident near the 8200-block of South Drexel Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m. when officers from the 6th District Tactical Team attempted to stop a male suspect.  As they approached, the suspect fled on foot and entered a nearby building. Officers pursued the individual inside. During the pursuit, officers encountered a second suspect who was armed with a rifle, Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling confirmed.  An exchange of gunfire occurred, during which Officer Rivera was shot.  A fellow officer returned fire, though it is unclear if the suspect was struck.
